About Us

About Geri: Keen blogger and chief picture, likes long walks on NZ beaches and pints in the sunshine.
About Neil: Avid MTBer, gym junkie and beer drinker, enjoys anything with two wheels and tires.
We’re Neil and G, a twenty-something kiwi couple who can’t seem to ‘settle down’.
2008
We spent ten glorious days honeymooning in Rarotonga. We rented a scooter, I crashed a scooter, got sun burnt and decided we weren’t ready to buy a house or pop out babies anytime soon so we made plans to travel. Exactly where we weren’t sure.
2009
The recession finally made it to NZ, Neil resorted to a commission only contract and we scrimped and saved where we could. Towards the end of the year a friend of a friend packed his life into a suitcase and left to teach English in South Korea – flights paid for, accommodation paid for, no experience necessary. We were sold. We applied, got accepted and booked a one way ticket to Seoul.
2010
We packed up our flat and moved to Cheongju to teach English with the EPIK program. We taught 1,300 elementary kids every week about the difference between kitchens and chickens and they taught us how to eat rice with chopsticks, why underfloor heating is awesome and what they really want for Christmas. We loved them but we quickly learned we weren’t cut out for the teaching gig and whilst the pay was great and we’d traveled to some great places during vacation (we spent our summer vacation exploring Jeju Island on a motorbike, Chuseok in China and two weeks of winter in Lagkawi and Penang) we weren’t teachers and we decided not to renew our contracts for another year.
2011
We packed up our two-bedroom flat in Cheongju and moved back home to NZ. The six weeks we’d allocated to sort our UK Visas almost wasn’t enough, but two weeks before we flew out to Australia, UK Immigration came through and before we knew it we were winging our way to London (with a stop in Dubai of course). After sorting out jobs, sorting out a flat and sorting out how our boiler worked we’d prepared ourselves for our next two years as Londoners.
2012
After a slow start to travel in 2012 we’ve locked in a few destinations – Turkey, Morocco, Spain, Germany and the Czech Republic are all on the cards as we work towards completing our 30 countries before we’re 30 list and indulge in some adventure motorcycle touring on our Yamaha Tenere 660Z.
Happy travelling! x
